Thank you for visiting! My watercolor artwork explores the natural beauty of the Western North Carolina Mountain landscape. Inspired by the wide vistas with “waves” of blue mountains to the wild brambles along a forest trail, I seek to create a feeling of presence and place in my paintings.
I’m often struck by the beauty that surrounds us in these wise old mountains. Sometimes the view of the mountains leaving the office, a sunset on the way home from the grocery store, or the sideways sunlight through the trees just before it slips down in the evening is enough to make me stop and pause. There is something every day to see, to appreciate, and to paint.
Watercolor runs in my family. My grandmother and great grandmother were accomplished watercolor painters. I’m drawn to the medium for its luminosity, accessibility, and the challenge of working with in a process that requires an artist to “let go” to create something beautiful. When not painting, you might just find me in the woods hiking or trail running along Bent Creek. I live in Asheville, NC, a stone’s throw from the Blue Ridge Parkway and Bent Creek Experimental Forest, with my daughter, two rescue dogs, and one chicken.
